On the night of June 5, residents of Bryansk, Russia, reported a series of loud explosions over the city.
The blasts were heard around 11:30 p.m. Witnesses also reported a fire near the local airfield following the explosions.
So-called Russian military bloggers claim that the target was likely an Iskander short-range ballistic missile system, which was reportedly stationed at the airfield.
As of the time of publication, Russian authorities had not issued any official comments. Meanwhile, local Telegram channels and pro-war bloggers are actively discussing a possible drone strike on the airfield.
The first such incident in Bryansk. Given the city’s proximity to the Ukrainian border, it has repeatedly been targeted by drone attacks.
An air raid alert has just been declared in temporarily occupied Crimea. The Russians are reporting a missile attack on the peninsula.
Notably, on June 1, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) carried out a historic and unprecedented strike on Russian airfields. The operation, dubbed Spiderweb, had been in preparation for a year and a half.
Using FPV drones, the SBU hit Russian air bases in Belaya, Dyagilevo, Olenya, and Ivanovo. The goal of the operation was to target strategic aircraft used by Russia to launch strikes against Ukraine.
