Powerful earthquake occurs in Kamchatka, volcano erupts
On Saturday, August 17, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck the Kamchatka Peninsula, followed by an eruption of the Shiveluch volcano, according to Sky News.
According to seismic services, the tremors were recorded 80 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at a depth of 51 kilometers. A tsunami warning was issued for some coastal areas of Russia.
The tremors were felt 108 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Soon after, an eruption of the Shiveluch volcano began in Ust-Kamchatsk, with ash being ejected up to 9 kilometers high.
The volcano has been assigned an orange aviation color code, indicating that ash emissions pose a significant threat to aviation.

Powerful earthquakes
On August 13, a magnitude 5-plus earthquake struck Syria, with the epicenter recorded near the city of Hama. Tremors were felt 121 kilometers from the epicenter in Aleppo.
In mid-April, a powerful earthquake occurred near the Ikata Nuclear Power Plant in Ehime City.
Earlier in April, Taiwan was hit by a powerful earthquake with a magnitude exceeding 7, with the epicenter located near Hualien.
