Power supply in several settlements of Russia's Volgograd and Voronezh regions was disrupted after a nighttime drone attack, Astra reported.

"Air defense forces repelled a massive drone attack on energy infrastructure facilities in the Volgograd region. As a result of falling debris in the Novonikolaevsky district, a fire broke out at the Balashovskaya power substation," said Volgograd region governor Andrey Bocharov.

The head of the neighboring Voronezh region, Alexander Gusev, also reported power outages in several settlements following the drone attack "in the neighboring region."

"Several settlements remain without electricity during emergency repair work that began after the repelled UAV attack in the neighboring region," Gusev said.

Background

Recently, drones have been attacking energy infrastructure facilities in various regions of Russia.

In the morning of September 27, Russians reported a drone attack on the Chuvashia Republic. It was said that a drone hit a pumping station, but there was no official confirmation from Ukraine.

In the summer of 2025, Ukraine resumed strikes on Russian oil refineries and pipelines. Coordinated operations by the Security Service of Ukraine, Special Operations Forces, the Main Intelligence Directorate, and the Unmanned Systems Forces destroyed about 20% of Russia's oil refining capacity, leading to a fuel crisis and logistics disruptions.
