Pope Francis speaks again about ending war in Ukraine and other countries
Pope Francis once again calls for an end to wars in Ukraine and the Middle East through the initiation of peace talks, according to Vatican News.
In his address, Pope Francis mentioned the "war-torn peoples of Ukraine and the Holy Land, Palestine, and Israel, who suffer so greatly from the horror of war..'
"Let us never forget war is always a defeat. One cannot go on in war. We must make every effort to negotiate to end the war," the pontiff declared.
He also urged believers to pray for the start of peaceful negotiations.
Controversial statement by the Pope
Last week Pope Francis called on Ukraine to "have the courage to negotiate." He also mentioned the phrase "white flag."
Such a statement caused a wide resonance. In particular, it was criticized by Ukraine and Western countries.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reminded the pontiff that Russian occupiers do not go further to conquer Europe only because our defenders do not let them do it.
At the same time, in Russia, on the contrary, they began to praise the pontiff. Representatives of the aggressor country called him a "true and sincere supporter of humanism, peace, and traditional values."
