Pope Francis hospitalized: What Vatican says about his condition

Pope Francis was recently hospitalized and remains in the hospital. He is suspected of having bronchitis, and doctors describe his condition as a "complex clinical situation."
RBC-Ukraine reports on what is known about the Pope's health.
Pope’s hospitalization
On Friday, February 14, it was reported that Pope Francis had been hospitalized for bronchitis treatment. At that point, he had already been ill for several days. On Wednesday, February 12, during a general audience, he was unable to finish his speech due to feeling unwell and asked another priest to read it for him.
Later, it was announced that Pope Francis would miss his usual public address and weekly prayer with pilgrims on Sunday, February 16, as doctors prescribed complete rest for the 88-year-old Pontiff.
Vatican’s update on Pope’s condition
According to Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni, medical tests have confirmed that Pope Francis has a polymicrobial respiratory infection — caused by a combination of viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites.
Following this diagnosis, doctors adjusted his treatment.
“All tests conducted so far indicate a complex clinical picture that requires hospitalization,” Bruni stated.
Despite his condition, the Pope remains in good spirits and will stay under medical supervision for as long as necessary. There is currently no timeline for his discharge.
Additionally, the Vatican has canceled the Pope’s scheduled audience on February 19 due to his health issues.
Earlier, Pope Francis had shortened a sermon, citing breathing difficulties, which he attributed to a bronchitis episode.
