Polling station closed in Georgia, results canceled: What happened?
In the Georgian town of Marneuli, mass ballot stuffing was recorded at a polling station, leading to the cancellation of the voting results, reports Georgia Online.
A video has been released online showing a man stuffing a bundle of ballots into the ballot box at polling station No. 69.
Media reports suggest that the man could be the deputy head of Marneuli. It was also noted in the footage that he was wearing a badge typically used by observers.
A scuffle occurred at the polling station, and the individual filming the violations sustained injuries.
Natia İoseliani, spokesperson for the Central Election Commission of Georgia, stated that the incident will be investigated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Due to mass fraud, the polling station was closed. The election commission held a meeting, and the results of the voting at the specified station were annulled. Voting was halted following the ballot stuffing. The polling station is currently closed.
Elections in Georgia
On Saturday, October 26, parliamentary elections are taking place in Georgia, which may be the most contentious in recent years. Georgians will elect 150 deputies, and the winning party will form the government and determine domestic and foreign policy for the next four years.
The ruling pro-Russian party, Georgian Dream, is competing against pro-European opposition parties.
Incidents of brawls, fraud, and cases of multiple ballots being issued to a single voter have already been reported in Georgia.
