Ukraine and its allies are close to agreeing on a package of documents that will regulate the cessation of hostilities and the terms of a post-war settlement. A key element of the agreements is a joint EU-US plan consisting of 20 points, reports Politico.
Joint EU-US strategy
According to a high-ranking source in the European Union, 6-7 strategic documents are currently being worked on. Among them is a large-scale 20-point peace plan developed jointly by Brussels and Washington. In addition to ceasefire mechanisms, the package includes agreements on long-term security guarantees and a strategy for Ukraine's economic development.
An important condition for the implementation of these agreements is the signing of documents by all parties to the process, including Russia.
Five points of the Coalition of the Willing
In parallel, during the meeting on January 6, the Coalition of the Willing intends to agree on five fundamental areas of support for Kyiv.
- Monitoring of the ceasefire - creation of a mechanism to monitor the ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.
- Military assistance - continuation of systematic support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
- Multinational forces - deployment of a foreign support contingent on the territory of Ukraine after the end of active hostilities.
- Protection against renewed aggression - clear commitments from allies to support Kyiv in the event of Moscow violating the terms of the ceasefire.
- Defense cooperation - signing long-term bilateral and multilateral agreements in the field of defense.
These initiatives should serve as a safeguard against new waves of escalation and ensure stability in the region after the signing of peace agreements.
Ukraine's allies held a meeting in Paris, where they discussed the practical implementation of future security agreements. The key topic of the talks was the creation of a technical base for the monitoring mission and the coordination of logistics routes for the supply of weapons within the framework of long-term commitments.
The meeting participants also paid attention to synchronizing actions between NATO and EU countries to ensure continuity of support for Kyiv even in the event of possible political changes within individual partner states.
The European Union is continuing to search for legal mechanisms that would allow it to bypass Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán's veto on joint financial and military support for Kyiv.
