Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has called on the US for cooperation amid Washington’s plans to impose tariffs on EU goods, according to Tusk's X.

Tusk highlighted Poland’s defense agreement with the US, emphasizing that the friendship between Poles and Americans is not abstract.

"We spend almost 5% of our GDP on defense. In cooperation with the US, we are building a modern and the biggest army in Europe to defend our borders but also our common values and interests," the Prime Minister said.

He stated that the US can always count on Poland, just as it can rely on its European allies from Portugal to Poland and from Denmark to Greece.

"In our common European-American interest are strong US, strong EU, and a strong NATO, not weaker. Think about it, Mr. President and dear American friends, before you decide to impose tariffs against your closest allies. Cooperation is always better than confrontation," Tusk added.

US tariffs

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly announced plans to impose tariffs on goods from the European Union.

On 2 April, US duties on all imported cars and light trucks are expected to come into effect.

On March 31, El País wrote that the European Union may restrict the access of American goods to the European market.
