Polish minister calls situation on Ukraine border 'Gordian knot'
The newly appointed Minister of Infrastructure of Poland, Dariusz Klimczak, stated that the protest by carriers at the border with Ukraine is a "Gordian knot that has been dragging on," according to PAP.
According to Klimczak, the situation on the Polish-Ukrainian border was a result of the inaction of the previous Polish government. He also mentioned that resolving the issue with carriers would be quite challenging.
"This is the first time we can even start discussing an agreement on transport liberalization. We know that this agreement is a bone of contention, which is why carriers are protesting at the border," said Klimczak.
He also announced a meeting with the Ukrainian Minister, Oleksandr Kubrakov, and mentioned that he talks to the protesters every day.
"We are looking for a common ground from which we can at least suspend the protest," he added.
Border blockade
Recall that Polish carriers began a strike at several border crossing points with Ukraine in early November. They demand the EU to revoke "transport visa-free" status with Ukraine.
Last week, on Monday, protesters stopped blocking the Yagodyn-Dorohusk border crossing point.
Local authorities initially prohibited strikes there, but later the court overturned such a decision.
