Polish farmers planning new large-scale protests
Farmers have announced a new nationwide strike in Poland, set to take place in "every municipality and county" on March 20, informs Polsat News.
The head of Solidarity of Individual Farmers, Tomasz Obszański, stated that during negotiations with the Prime Minister, nothing was agreed upon, and the head of the government "did not come up with anything."
According to the farmer, on March 20, all of Poland will come to a standstill: children won't be able to go to school, and people won't be able to go to work. He added that the strike "will be even stronger than before: they will block regional and district cities, roads."
"Farmers are facing serious problems due to the lack of state support, although the prime minister is doing everything in his power. We remain without any support," said Tomasz Obszański.
Border blockade with Poland
On November 6, 2023, Polish carriers initiated strikes at the border with Ukraine. The cause was dissatisfaction among farmers with the transit of Ukrainian grain through Poland.
Polish farmers are using the border blockade with Ukraine, where the war is ongoing, as a means of pressuring their own government and the European Commission to make concessions regarding the so-called Green Deal.
On March 9, Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk, during a meeting with Polish farmers, remarked that he would not close the Polish border to goods from outside the European Union. According to him, his hands are currently "tied," but he will try to persuade the European Commission to make concessions regarding the so-called Green Deal.
