Police officers were on the scene from the first minutes of the massive overnight attack on Kyiv. They helped the wounded and freed people trapped in collapsed apartments, according to Oleksii Biloshytskyi, head of the Patrol Police Department.
He said residential buildings in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district were hit during the overnight attack, leaving people injured and killed.
"Officers from the tactical and operational response unit were at the attack sites from the very first minutes. In particular, Denys Tryhubenko and Anton Dobrenko found three injured women and provided them with first aid — applying bandages and tourniquets to stop the bleeding. They then helped get them to ambulances," Biloshytskyi said.
Police officers also helped rescuers evacuate the injured and free people trapped inside collapsed apartments.

Biloshytskyi added that emergency response efforts following the massive Russian attack are still underway. Police, rescuers, medics and other emergency services continue to work at the affected sites.
Overnight attack on Kyiv
As previously reported, on the night of August 20, Russia launched a massive combined attack on Kyiv and the Kyiv region. The air raid alert in the capital lasted nearly nine hours.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later said the overnight attack damaged 30 residential buildings, as well as a school, a hospital and a kindergarten. At least 15 people are currently known to have been killed in Kyiv.
The president said the Russian attack was one of the most cynical, calculated and large-scale strikes.
