Poles to be notified of fighter jet deployments amid Russian attacks on Ukraine

Polish citizens will receive SMS alerts when the country's fighter jets are scrambled in response to Russian attacks on Ukraine, according to a statement by Polish Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka, RMF24 reports.
Poland to improve public alerts
During a large-scale Russian strike on western Ukraine on July 30, a cruise missile entered Polish airspace, according to the deputy defense minister. She said the military side of the system responded appropriately.
However, Poland's civilian alert system did not activate during the incident, prompting efforts to improve it.
According to Sobkowiak-Czarnecka, the Government Security Center and the Interior Ministry are now drawing lessons from the episode.
The Polish Armed Forces General Staff and the Operational Command are also involved in discussions with the government's security bodies. The goal, she said, is to strengthen the entire warning system further.
Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said citizens will now also receive SMS alerts about dangerous situations that are still unfolding in Ukraine.
"If our personnel come under threat, we will provide even more information using the Government Security Center's alert system," she said.
Russian Kh-101 missile enters Poland
As previously reported by RBC-Ukraine, air raid alerts were issued in eastern Poland on the night of July 30 as Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine. Reports soon emerged that one or two missiles may have briefly entered Polish airspace.
Residents of Poland's Lublin Voivodeship also reported hearing powerful explosions. A large crater was later discovered near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia, possibly caused by the impact of an unidentified object.
Ukraine's acting foreign minister, Andrii Sybiha, later said that a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile had flown over Polish territory that night.
It was also reported that the Russian Kh-101 cruise missile that crashed in Poland's Lublin Voivodeship had been manufactured in the second quarter of 2026.
