Poland will transfer two Soviet-era MiG-29 fighter jets and ammunition to Ukraine in the near future, Dariusz Łukowski, director of the Department of Strategy and Defense Planning at Poland’s Ministry of National Defense, stated.
The aircraft and ammunition will be part of a new Polish aid package worth approximately €50 million.
Journalists asked Łukowski when Ukraine would finally receive the fighter jets.
“In the near future. The decision has been made, and these two MiG-29s will be transferred,” the official emphasized.
According to media reports, one of the aircraft has already reached the end of its service life, while the other remains airworthy.
The aid package will also include:
-
155 mm and 152 mm artillery ammunition;
-
Twenty 102 mm rounds for the six-barreled cannons on F-16 fighter jets, as well as missiles for Piorun man-portable air defense systems.
Poland’s Ministry of National Defense officially confirmed that Warsaw is preparing a new military aid package for Ukraine.
The ministry explained that the package’s size will depend on national security needs and the capabilities of the Polish armed forces, as determined by the Chief of the General Staff.
The ministry also noted that the aid will include equipment being retired from Polish military service because it has reached the end of its service life. Although Poland will no longer use this equipment, it may still be useful to Ukraine.
However, Poland’s defense ministry did not disclose which specific weapons and equipment would be included in the new package, citing the confidential nature of the information.
RBC-Ukraine also reported that Poland was ready to transfer MiG-29s to Ukraine in exchange for drones and technological know-how.
