Why Poland still hasn't sent MiG jets to Ukraine: Ambassador explains

Poland has not yet transferred the promised MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, but is ready to do so. The biggest problem is the lack of funds to modernize these aircraft, Vasyl Bondar, Ukraine’s ambassador to Poland, said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
According to him, the biggest problem is their modernization.
“At the moment, we do not have the funds for modernization. But the Polish side has declared its readiness to transfer them in exchange for corresponding assistance from the Ukrainian side, so this issue remains relevant. I hope that in the coming weeks we will see some progress in this regard,” Bondar explained.
The ambassador noted that he does not want to get ahead of himself, as announcements have been made several times before, only for nothing to happen afterward.
Transfer of MiG-29s to Ukraine
Transferring MiG-29s to Ukraine has previously been a subject of controversy between Kyiv and Warsaw. The Polish side stated that it expected Ukrainian drone technology in return, but the preliminary agreement was not implemented.
In August, Poland and Ukraine were finalizing an agreement on the transfer of MiG-29 fighter jets to Kyiv. In exchange, Warsaw is to receive Ukrainian drones as well as technological know-how.
