Poland viewed the CIA director’s talks in Moscow as a reason to step up its defense efforts. Officials in Warsaw pointed out that Russia had already made a promise not to attack before it invaded Ukraine, citing Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.
Russia’s assurances that it will not attack NATO should not be trusted. Polish deputy prime minister and foreign minister Radosław Sikorski made this remark while commenting on reports of the CIA director’s talks in Moscow.
According to him, Putin’s spies apparently told the CIA director that he would not provoke NATO. The politician recalled that on the eve of the full-scale invasion, the Kremlin had already made similar assurances.
“Putin had told president Biden’s CIA Director that he would not invade Ukraine,” Sikorski noted.
Against this backdrop, the head of Polish diplomacy called for accelerating defense preparations.
This week, CIA director John Ratcliffe made a secret visit to Moscow. According to media reports, he warned Russia against attacking NATO. The Kremlin later confirmed Ratcliffe’s talks with Russian intelligence services.
