Poland says ammunition delivery for Ukraine under Czech initiative already underway
The organizing of ammunition supply for Ukraine within the Czech initiative has already begun. But the exact delivery dates are not disclosed yet, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Radosław Sikorski.
"The fact that it (the Czech initiative - ed.) has already received solid promises of support backed by money and that transportation is already being organized, means that we feel the burden of responsibility for helping Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression," Sikorski said.
He also added that Poland "will double its contribution to the Czech initiative on the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine." At the same time, he refused to disclose specific amounts, explaining it is classified data.
"I do not feel authorized to speak about specific amounts," the minister said.
Czech initiative
Last month, Czech President Petr Pavel announced that his country had found around 800,000 artillery shells outside the European Union that could be transferred to Ukraine. However, funding is needed for this initiative.
After that, several Western countries started allocating money for ammunition, which is one of the main needs of the Ukrainian army.
Recently, the Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs said that as part of the initiative, Ukraine could receive 1.5 million shells, not 800,000 as previously planned.
According to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Kyiv expects the first batch of ammunition in April.
