Poland restricts air traffic along its eastern border

Poland has decided to restrict air traffic in the eastern part of the country for three months. The measure is intended to help ensure the effective operation of the country’s air defense system, according to the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.

From September 10 to December 9, eastern Poland will be designated as a temporary restricted airspace zone, EP R134.
The zone will extend from the ground to flight level FL95 — about 3 kilometers. Passenger aircraft normally fly at higher altitudes.
"Therefore, the zone does not apply to passenger aircraft operating at higher altitudes," the military said.
The restrictions are intended to ensure more effective operation of Poland’s military air defense system in the east, according to the command.
All elements of the air defense system will receive:
- greater freedom of action,
- the ability to respond effectively to potential threats,
- reduced impact of the measures on civil aviation and other airspace users.
The Polish military also published a map showing the area covered by the new restrictions.

The strictest restrictions will apply at night, when a complete ban on flights will be introduced.
Exceptions will include:
- military aircraft,
- takeoffs and landings at Depułtycze-Królewskie Airport (EPCD) in the Chełm area.
The condition is that these operations must be approved in advance. During nighttime hours, the airspace within the zone will have unclassified status.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Polish authorities were investigating a fire at the facility of defense company WB Electronics, which produces drones for the Polish and Ukrainian armies. Arson is one of the theories being investigated.
It was also reported that Polish fighter jets intercepted a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft about 30 kilometers north of the town of Łeba.
In addition, two Russian Su-30SM2 fighter jets approached the area where Poland was conducting air defense exercises on July 15. They were intercepted.
