Poland remains Ukraine's reliable ally, Ambassador says

Poland remains Ukraine's key ally in the war with Russia. The alliance is based on a deep understanding of the common threat, Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Vasyl Bodnar says in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
Poland was the first to help
"Absolutely. Without Poland, there would've been no first wave of military aid after the full-scale invasion," Bodnar says in response. It is still fair to call Poland our loyal, reliable ally and advocate in Europe and the Western world.
He emphasizes that it was Poland that was the first to open its borders to millions of Ukrainians seeking safety.
According to him, with all due respect to other neighbors, it was Poland that did the most to receive refugees and organize critically important transit.
Poland is critically important for rear security
The Ambassador emphasizes that Poland plays a central role in securing Ukraine's rear. He says that without Poland, Ukraine would always have a vulnerable rear.
Bodnar highlights the geographical risks from the north: Russia's Kaliningrad region and Belarus, which is controlled by Moscow. In this situation, only a strong Poland can guarantee the security of the western direction.
Threat from Russia - shared understanding
The diplomat is convinced that despite internal challenges, Poland understands the danger posed by Russia. "I believe there is a consensus in Polish society that Russia is the greatest threat to Europe," the Ambassador says.
In his opinion, the alliance between Ukraine and Poland is based not only on political decisions, but also on a deep understanding of the common threat.
Bodnar concludes that if Poland does not become stronger, does not arm itself, and does not continue to help us, Ukraine's rear will be under threat.
