Poland prepares consulates in US amid Trump's deportation plan
Poland will prepare its consulates in the United States for potential deportations of Polish citizens. This decision follows US President Donald Trump’s announcement of the largest migrant deportation in US history, stated Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk according to Polish Radio.
Tusk said he had instructed Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski to prepare Polish consulates in the US for the possible deportation of Poles in connection with Trump's statements.
"After the first reports about the possible deportation of illegal immigrants from the United States, I asked the Foreign Minister to prepare our consulates, posts, and services in the US for possible consequences of these decisions for Poles working and living in the US with different status and levels of legality," Tusk stated.
He added that the US administration has not yet disclosed details of Trump’s announced deportation plan.
"We have not received information on whether this operation might affect Polish citizens residing in the US. In any case, we must be prepared, so our facilities in the US will reach our citizens who are concerned about this situation as soon as possible," Tusk noted.
Trump announces largest deportation in US history
On January 20, the day before his inauguration, US President Donald Trump promised swift action to shut down border crossings to illegal migrants. He also announced plans for the "largest deportation" in the country’s history.
Mike Waltz, Trump’s national security advisor, stated that the new administration is ready to begin deporting immigrants immediately after the inauguration. Immigration services are set to take decisive action.
Shortly after his inauguration, Trump signed an executive order declaring illegal immigration at the US-Mexico border an emergency.
