The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces said it had scrambled military aircraft due to Russia's large-scale overnight attack on Ukraine. All operations aimed at preventing potential threats have now been completed, according to the Polish military on X.
"Military aviation operations in Polish airspace related to missile strikes by the Russian Federation on Ukraine have been completed. The ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems that had been activated have returned to standard operational activity," the command said.
The country's Armed Forces also stated that no violations of Poland’s airspace were recorded.
The Polish military added that relevant services continuously monitor the situation in Ukraine and remain in constant readiness to ensure the security of the country’s airspace.
Large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine on the night of March 7
Moscow carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine on the night of March 7. In addition to the usual drone strikes, the enemy used ballistic and cruise missiles, and in some regions guided aerial bombs.
As a result of the shelling and strikes, including falling debris from drones or missiles, many people were injured and there were also fatalities. Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Chernivtsi and other cities and settlements came under attack. It was also reported that children were among the injured this time. In addition to casualties, residential buildings, cars and other structures were damaged by the strikes.
As is known, Warsaw actively responds to shelling in Ukraine's western regions and often scrambles aircraft due to potential threats. The Polish military has been especially alert since the massive violation of airspace by Russian drones that occurred in September last year.
At that time, Polish officials held urgent meetings and began actively strengthening defense measures. After similar drone provocations in other EU countries, Europe began seriously preparing for confrontation with the aggressor.
