The Ambassador of Poland to Ukraine, Piotr Łukasiewicz, started his work in Ukraine on September 2. He replaced Jarosław Guzy, according to the spokesperson for the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Paweł Wroński.

"Ambassador Pawel Łukasiewicz starts work in Ukraine today," the spokesperson says.

Before that, Jarosław Guzy was the Polish ambassador to Ukraine, who was appointed to the post in October 2023.

Łukasiewicz

Łukasiewicz is a political scientist, diplomat, and a colonel in the Polish Armed Forces. From 2012 to 2014, he served as the country's ambassador to Afghanistan. In particular:

  • from 1995 to 2006, he worked on issues related to state security and the fight against terrorism;
  • participated in stabilization missions in Iraq from 2004 to 2005;
  • served as Deputy Military Attaché in Islamabad in 2006;
  • in January 2007, he was appointed military attaché in Afghanistan;
  • was appointed Plenipotentiary Representative of the Ministry of Defense in Afghanistan;
  • in 2012, he retired from the army with the rank of colonel and became the Polish ambassador to Afghanistan. He completed his mission in 2014.
  • after his return, he was engaged in journalism, teaching, and expert activities.

In July 2024, the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine officially took up his duties as Ukraine's Ambassador to the UK.
