Pokrovsk should be considered as direction not separate city - Armed Forces explain reason
Ivan Tymochko, head of the Council of Reservists of the Ground Forces, shared in a comment to RBC-Ukraine, that Pokrovsk should be viewed not as an isolated city but as part of the Vuhledar-Kurakhove-Pokrovsk frontline. The enemy has attacked and will continue to attack along this line to seize the initiative.
"Pokrovsk should not be considered a separate city but always in the context of the Vuhledar-Kurakhove-Pokrovsk axis. This line is directional for the enemy. Clearly, the quality of our Armed Forces units and the situation there are entirely different. This is linked to many factors and challenges," he said.
Tymochko emphasized that the Vuhledar-Kurakhove-Pokrovsk axis is a direction the enemy has attacked and will continue to attack to seize the initiative. According to him, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin ordered the capture of the Donetsk region back in 2021. Therefore, the Russians have deployed all strategic-level forces and resources they possess.
"Putin understands that certain negotiations and peacekeeping processes are approaching, with the first major serious peace summit sessions coming up. He’s entering these from a very poor position. The Donetsk region remains unconquered, his troops are retreating in the Kursk region, there have been no operational successes, not even tactical ones, in Kharkiv; Russian troops are either on the defensive or retreating north of Kharkiv," Tymochko stated.
The Ground Forces representative added that part of the troops had been redeployed from the Kurakhove direction. As he noted, the occupiers are now forced to reallocate significant reserves to put them "on wheels" and eventually transfer them to cover the front line in the Kursk region.
"Of course, all the forces and resources they had, the concentration and logistics routes – everything that was built up for a large-scale offensive on Donetsk, they are now trying to use to achieve at least some preemptive success," the military official noted.

Battles for Pokrovsk
It should be noted that the Pokrovsk direction has remained the most challenging section of the frontline in recent months. The Russians have advanced to the outskirts of the city, and local authorities are urging residents to evacuate immediately. Banks in Pokrovsk will cease operations next week.
The Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, reported that in the Pokrovsk direction, the Russians are leveraging their advantage in manpower and military equipment. Over 50 combat engagements occur daily in this area, with the Russians losing up to 300 soldiers.
