A 20-year-old agent of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has been exposed for preparing an enemy shelling of the Cherkasy region, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reports.

Case details

The traitor turned out to be a 20-year-old student at a local university who, on the enemy's orders, was adjusting Russia's missile and drone attacks on the Cherkasy region.

Previously, the suspect lived in Luhansk but moved to Cherkasy before the full-scale war began and entered the university. Later, the student came under the attention of Russian special services while searching for "easy money" on Telegram.

After recruitment, the traitor began reporting to the enemy about the results of the strikes. His next task was to locate the combat positions of Ukraine's Defense Forces' radar stations. The enemy planned to use the intelligence to prepare Russian air attacks bypassing the Ukrainian air defense system.

"The suspect also spied on the administrative building of the regional National Police department, trying to determine the level of protection of the outer perimeter of the restricted facility," the SBU adds.

The suspect was detained at an early stage of intelligence activity.

What suspect faces

The traitor has been charged under Part 2, Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - state treason committed during martial law. He faces life imprisonment.

RBC-Ukraine also previously reported that a hostile informant was recently exposed in Dnipro who, while working at critical infrastructure facilities, leaked data about regional air defense and energy facilities.
