Pentagon reveals purpose of ATACMS delivery to Ukraine - NYT
The US Department of Defense has explained the purpose of long-range ATACMS missile delivery to Ukraine, reports The New York Times.
A senior US defense official said that the purpose of the new long-range systems is to increase pressure on Crimea, the center of Russian air and ground forces, “where, right now, Russia has had relatively safe haven”.
However, Pentagon officials refused to specify an exact number of long-range systems that have been sent to Ukraine.
ATACMS for Ukraine
Yesterday, on April 24, US President Joe Biden signed a law providing financial and military assistance to Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the new aid package included long-range ATACMS missiles with a range of more than 300 kilometers.
Later, the US Department of Defense said that Ukraine had already received ATACMS in early April.
