Pentagon reveals details of new US aid to Ukraine
Ahead of Ukrainian Independence Day, the United States announced a new military aid package to address critical security and defense needs of the Ukrainian state, according to the Pentagon.
The aid will provide Ukraine with capabilities to meet its most urgent needs, including air defense capabilities, munitions for missile systems and artillery, and anti-tank weaponry.
The full list of items included in the new $125 million military aid package is as follows:
- Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (c-UAS) equipment and munitions;
- Ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS);
- 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition;
- Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided (TOW) missiles;
- Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems;
- High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) ambulances;
- Small arms ammunition;
- Medical equipment;
- Demolitions equipment and munitions;
- Spare parts, ancillary equipment, services, training, and transportation.
This package is being provided under the US President's authority to draw weapons from American stockpiles, which means the aid will arrive in Ukraine much faster than usual.
The Pentagon added that while Ukraine prepares to celebrate Independence Day, the US and an international coalition of approximately 50 allies and partners remain committed to supporting the courageous Ukrainian defenders who continue to fight against Russian aggression.
On August 23, US President Joe Biden held a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. During the call, the American leader announced the new aid package.
Earlier, the White House press office stated that the US is still negotiating with Ukraine regarding strikes on Russian territory using American weapons.
