The Pentagon is preparing for possible ground operations in Iran that could last several weeks, depending on a decision by US President Donald Trump, according to The Washington Post.

Preparation for a new phase of the conflict

In the United States, scenarios for further escalation in the Middle East are being considered. According to sources, thousands of US troops and Marines are already being deployed to the region.

This concerns preparations for a potential operation that could become the next phase of the conflict if the White House makes the corresponding decision.

At the same time, it is emphasized that the actions under discussion do not involve a full-scale invasion.

Format of the possible operation

According to officials, this could involve limited raids with the participation of special operations forces and conventional infantry units.

Such actions are seen as a more flexible format of military intervention.

It is noted that even under this approach, US forces could face serious threats, including drone and missile attacks, fire from ground positions, and the use of improvised explosive devices.

White House position

In recent days, the administration of Donald Trump has been sending mixed signals — from statements about the desire to end the conflict to warnings of possible escalation.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that the Pentagon’s preparations are aimed at expanding options for the president.

"It's the job of the Pentagon to make preparations in order to give the Commander in Chief maximum optionality. It does not mean the President has made a decision."

At the same time, she previously stated that if Tehran refuses to abandon its nuclear ambitions, Trump is "prepared to unleash hell" against Iran.

Possible targets and timeline

According to sources, the administration discussed the option of establishing control over Kharg Island.

The timeline for a potential operation is assessed differently: from several weeks to several months.

Earlier, the US handed Iran a list of 15 demands, including restrictions on weapons, ending support for proxy groups, and recognition of Israel.

We remind that in Tel Aviv and about 20 other cities in Israel, the largest anti-war protests since the beginning of the war took place, with thousands of people demanding an end to the escalation of the conflict with Iran.
