Pentagon on possibility of Oreshnik strike on Ukraine: It's possible, but no date has been set
Russia may strike Ukraine with an Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile in the coming days. However, the exact date of the potential attack is unknown, according to a briefing by Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh.
"Putin has said publicly that Russia intends to launch another experimental Oreshnik missile, as you mentioned. It is possible that Russia could do this in the coming days. I do not have an exact date," Singh noted.
According to her, if Russia attacks Ukraine with the Oreshnik again, it will not be a turning point on the battlefield. Moscow will only attempt to inflict damage and losses on Ukraine.
"We have seen this before; they try to use every weapon that they have in their arsenal to intimidate Ukraine, but of course, Ukraine, with the United States, and other partners around the world, continues to have our support as they fight every single day on the battlefield," she added.
Singh assured that the US will continue to provide Ukraine with air defense systems, as they remain one of the top priorities.
Rumors about the Oreshnik strike
Earlier, Reuters, citing an unnamed source, reported that Russia may strike Ukraine with a medium-range ballistic Oreshnik missile in the coming days. However, this will not change the course of the war.
The first Oreshnik strike on Ukraine took place on November 21, when Russian forces attacked a defense enterprise in Dnipro.
As emphasized in a comment to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel by Major General (ret.) of the Security Service of Ukraine, former Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Viktor Yahun, Russia used a dummy missile during the attack.
