Pentagon comments on Russian missile flight over Poland
The United States will defend every inch of NATO territory in case one of the allies is attacked, according to Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh.
Singh was asked to comment on the flight of a Russian missile over the territory of Poland during the massive shelling of Ukraine and the possibility of destroying enemy targets if the incident happened again.
"What this administration has said repeatedly is that we will defend every inch of NATO. Should a NATO ally be attacked, we certainly don't want to see that, but we will defend every inch of NATO," she said.
She added that assisting Ukraine remains a priority for the United States. This aid can be reinstated after Congress allocates the necessary funding.
What happened before
On the night of March 24, Russian occupiers once again launched a massive missile strike on Ukraine. In particular, the western regions were under attack.
One of the missiles entered Polish airspace - it was detected over the Lublin Voivodeship. However, Polish military authorities ignored the provocation.
Later, Mieczyslaw Benek, an adviser to the Polish Defense Minister, noted that Poland would have shot down the missile if it had flown further into the country.
