Pentagon chief urges US generals to prepare for war

The United States must be ready for war to "ensure peace", said Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth during a meeting with American generals in Virginia.
"We must prepare for war. Not because we want war. But it's because we love peace," Hegseth said.
According to him, "the only people who deserve peace are those who are willing to wage war to defend it."
"That's why pacifism is so naive and dangerous. Either you protect your people and sovereignty, or you will be subservient to something or someone," the US defense secretary added.
Meeting of US generals
Earlier in September, US President Donald Trump signed a decree renaming the Department of Defense as the Department of War. In doing so, he restored the name used from 1789 to 1947 — a period when officials sought to emphasize the Pentagon’s role in preventing conflicts.
However, the Pentagon has been deeply dissatisfied with the renaming.
Recently, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth announced an emergency meeting with hundreds of American generals. Bloomberg suggested that the head of the department intends to discuss defense strategy with military leaders.
