The US and China have agreed to establish new military communication channels to deconflict and de-escalate any issues that arise, said US Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The Pentagon chief stated that following the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping in South Korea, he held an equally positive meeting this week with China’s Minister of National Defense, Dong Jun, in Malaysia.

“The Admiral and I agree that peace, stability, and good relations are the best path forward for our two great and powerful countries,” Hegseth wrote on X.

He also referenced Donald Trump’s words, noting that the US president said his historic G2 meeting set the tone for eternal peace and the success of the US.

“The Department of War will do the same — peace through strength, mutual respect, and positive relations,” Hegseth emphasized.

He added that both sides have scheduled additional meetings to formalize these coordination efforts.

Trump and Xi Jinping Meeting

On the night of October 30 (Kyiv time), US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping met in Busan, South Korea. This was their first meeting since 2019 and lasted 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Following the meeting, the US president rated it 12 out of 10, citing reductions in tariffs against China, Beijing’s steps to purchase soybeans and other agricultural products, and assistance in stopping the flow of fentanyl into the US.

In addition, the negotiations included discussions on Russia’s war against Ukraine.
