US President Donald Trump, in an interview with US radio station WABC, said that the end of Russia's war against Ukraine is coming, stressing his desire to stop the bloodshed.
According to Trump, he views Russia's war against Ukraine as one of the key international conflicts that requires a swift political resolution.
The US President confirmed peace in the Middle East and said that almost all wars are over.
"I didn't know they had eight wars when I was running [for the second term]. I never even thought about it, but I ended up putting out eight wars, and we have a ninth one coming, I believe," he said.
The US leader emphasized that he wants to stop the bloodshed and reduce human losses.
“But it’s a bloodbath over there. So many soldiers are dying… I want this to stop,” he added.
At the same time, Trump once again repeated his claim that he had previously considered resolving this conflict to be a relatively easy task.
US diplomatic efforts on the war in Ukraine
Trilateral talks involving Russia, the United States, and Ukraine took place in Abu Dhabi on January 23–24. Following the meeting, the White House described it as "historic," underscoring the importance of a diplomatic settlement to conflicts.
US President's special envoy Steve Witkoff spoke positively about the consultations in Abu Dhabi and confirmed the parties' willingness to continue them.
The next round of talks may take place on February 1. However, members of Ukraine's parliament said Washington has set a deadline for reaching agreements by May 15. If there is no progress, the United States has warned it may withdraw from the negotiation process.
Meanwhile, an RBC-Ukraine source said the January 23–24 meeting was introductory in nature.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that during the Abu Dhabi meetings, the parties reviewed all points of a 20-point peace plan and that the number of contentious issues in the negotiations had been significantly reduced.
