The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has approved a resolution concerning Ukrainian children. In particular, the resolution calls for the recognition of the deportation of Ukrainian children by Russia as genocide against the Ukrainian people, report Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Honcharenko and Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The PACE resolution is based on a project prepared by Ukrainian MP Olena Homenko, who is the Vice-President of the Assembly. The resolution was unanimously supported by 85 PACE deputies.

During the consideration of the resolution in video format, the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, delivered a speech.

The document contains an important political decision to recognize Russia's criminal actions against Ukrainian children. In particular, the resolution calls on the parliaments of all Council of Europe member countries to recognize the deportation of children as genocide against the Ukrainian people.

In addition, special attention is paid to displaced children. PACE calls for strengthening political support and support from humanitarian organizations to protect internally displaced children.

The Assembly also emphasizes the need to quickly return children to Ukraine to reduce the impact of the Russian regime on them. The resolution supported the Bring Kids Back UA initiative and the creation of the International Coalition of Countries for the Return of Ukrainian Children and welcomed the establishment of the Child Rights Protection Center, which operates under the supervision of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.

Russia deporting Ukrainian children

The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova for the deportation of Ukrainian children.

Earlier, the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, revealed that Russia had taken thousands of children from Ukraine. The process of their return is complicated and lengthy, as the Russians refuse to cooperate.

In early January, another child was successfully returned from the occupied part of the Kherson region. This is a 12-year-old boy.
