At the 2026 Oscars, a new nomination will be introduced. Now, an award can be received for best achievement in casting, according to The Guardian.

According to the material, the last update concerned the award for best animated feature film and was presented in 2001.
The creation of the nomination for achievement in casting was the result of a long struggle by casting directors to be represented at the ceremony.
"Casting directors play an essential role in filmmaking, and as the Academy evolves, we are proud to add casting to the disciplines that we recognize and celebrate," the Academy statement said.

This means that the new award will be given to the casting director who managed to assemble the best ensemble cast for the film presented on the screen.
The 96th Academy Awards ceremony will take place on the night of March 10 to 11, 2024.
With the most nominations (13), Christopher Nolan's film "Oppenheimer" leads.
