Orbán criticizes €2 trillion EU budget that includes €100 bln for Ukraine

The European Commission (EC) will allegedly eventually withdraw or gradually abandon the proposed budget project of the European Union (EU) amounting to 2 trillion euros, according to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, quoted by Reuters.
"This budget would ruin the European Union. This budget I believe will not survive even next year, the Commission will either have to withdraw it or the Commission will have to backtrack step by step," Orbán stated.
EU budget project
On July 16, the EC published the EU budget project, which covers the period from 2028 to 2034. The total amount is 1.98 trillion euros, which exceeds the current seven-year budget of 1.2 trillion euros.
The budget foresees the creation of a competitiveness, prosperity, and security fund amounting to 590 billion euros, among which 451 billion is intended to support European business.
In addition, a separate line indicates funding for Ukraine in the amount of 100 billion euros. The funds will go towards the country's recovery, resilience, and European integration.
Meanwhile, Germany rejected the project just a few hours after the presentation of the plan by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels.
