A third of the Russian fuel sector facilities have been affected or damaged as a result of special operations carried out by Ukrainian defenders. These facilities supply fuel to the occupying forces, informs Andrii Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, in an interview with the Center for Countering Disinformation.

“There are statistics, there is open data. A third (of the facilities in Russia – ed.) have been damaged or affected to one extent or another. There are significant problems with restoration because it involves imported equipment, and due to sanctions, there are major issues with supplying this equipment,” Yusov said.

The representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate reminded about the restrictions on importing fuel and lubricants into Russia, which indicates that the enemy is feeling the impact of attacks and sanctions.

Yusov emphasised that when speaking about attacks, it does not refer to civilian facilities. Instead, it concerns oil refineries that fuel Russian military vehicles, sell petroleum products, and finance the aggression against Ukraine.

Attacks on Russian oil refineries

Ukrainian forces have carried out dozens of operations targeting Russian oil refineries and fuel storage facilities. Defenders are targeting facilities that support the Russian army and provide fuel to the occupying forces.

According to the Foreign Intelligence Service, three Russian oil refineries have partially ceased operations. The reason for this is unfinished repair work. The Russians were unable to complete repair operations in October due to sanctions.
