One of Europe's largest corn mazes has opened in Hungary

A massive 4.5-hectare corn maze has opened in the Hungarian town of Kiszombor, near the Romanian border. This year's design follows a fairy-tale theme, with giant images of storybook characters, a castle, and a unicorn carved into the field, Euronews reports.
The attraction, created each year by local volunteers, has become a popular destination for family outings and puzzle enthusiasts. Visitors can follow a route of around 2.5 kilometers, but finding the way out through the many dead ends is not easy.
The history of the corn maze in Kiszombor began in 2008. It was created by members of the local Kiss Mária Hortensia history and local heritage club. The idea was to draw attention to the region, which had been facing population decline, and attract more visitors.
According to Erzsébet Endresz, head of the club and project leader, the main goal of the initiative is to make Kiszombor better known among Hungarian and European tourists who enjoy puzzles and unusual routes. She compares the maze to a giant natural escape room.
Each year, the attraction welcomes around 2,000 to 3,000 visitors, who come not only to explore the corn maze but also to take part in traditional skill-based games.
The maze will remain open until late August
This year's fairy-tale-themed corn maze will be open to visitors until August 22. Organizers expect it to become one of the region's top summer tourist attractions.
Similar agritourism attractions have been growing in popularity across Europe in recent years, as they combine outdoor recreation, family entertainment, and elements of adventure games.
