One fatality in Russian night attack on Odesa region
During the past night, the Air Defense Forces successfully downed 9 Shahed-136 drones in the Odesa region. Simultaneously, one of the enemy drones crashed in a residential area, leading to a fatal incident due to the explosion, according to Oleh Kiper, the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration.
It is noted that one of the downed drones crashed into a residential neighborhood in the Odesa region and exploded. This resulted in the destruction and subsequent fire of private residential houses and a warehouse belonging to a private sports facility.
"Rescuers promptly extinguished the fire. In one of the buildings, a deceased person was found. I express sincere condolences to the family and friends..." - wrote Kiper.
Drones were shot down in two regions
Simultaneously, as reported by the Southern Defense Forces, the enemy terrorized southern regions with a drone attack for 5 hours during the night.
In the area under the command's responsibility, air defense units shot down 16 UAVs of the Shahed-131/136 type launched by occupiers from Crimea. 7 kamikaze drones were shot down in Kherson region, and 9 in Odesa region.
"During the combat operation, one of the targeted drones crashed into a private residential house in the Odesa region and exploded. The explosion damaged surrounding houses, a hangar with property belonging to a private sports facility. A massive fire broke out, which firefighters promptly extinguished. One deceased man was found at the scene," the statement said.
Night attack by the Russian Federation against Ukraine
On the night of December 17, Russia launched an attack on Ukraine using Shahed drones, Iskander-K missiles, and Kh-59 missiles. Air defense forces successfully destroyed over 20 enemy targets.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported the flight of a guided aviation missile towards Kropyvnytskyi. Subsequently, explosions were heard in the city.
Explosions were also reported in Odesa. Military sources indicated the passage of strike drones from the Black Sea waters.
