Olympic flame of 2024 Games lit at ceremony in Greece
The lighting ceremony for the 2024 Olympic Games flame took place in ancient Greek Olympia, according to the official Twitter of the competition.
The event unfolded amidst the ruins of the Temple of Hera, venerating the supreme goddess of Greek mythology.
Actress Mary Mina assumed the role of the high priestess, igniting the flame before passing it to the first torchbearer, Olympic champion from Tokyo, Stefanos Duskos, who will embark on the traditional Olympic torch relay.
Over eleven days, the Olympic symbol will traverse various locales of Greece, carried by more than 550 torchbearers. The journey will culminate in Marseille, France, on May 8.
Set to commence on July 26, the 2024 Olympics will run until August 11, featuring 10,500 athletes competing across 48 disciplines.
