Odesa's military chief announces enhanced air defense in region
The air defense in the Odesa region has significantly strengthened since the beginning of the year. Specifically, there has been an increase in the number of mobile firepower units, reports the Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper, at a press conference.
The Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration was asked to comment on the measures taken this year to strengthen the air defense in the Odesa region.
'What was there before is now significantly better. The President (Volodymyr Zelenskyy - Ed.) promised and doesn't forget about Odesa - he constantly reinforces us. And this is not the end. Certain processes involving potential partners are underway," Kiper emphasizes.
According to him, a significant number of mobile firepower units have been established. Their quantity has increased "manyfold."
He has clarified that the current issue lies in purchasing pickups for these units since acquiring used vehicles in Europe is practically impossible - they've all been sold out.
The Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration notes that the Odesa region is the largest in Ukraine, making it challenging to cover the entire coastline from Shakhed drones. There have also been instances when Russian drones attacked the region through Moldova and Romania's territories.
Background
On November 25th, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that additional air defense systems would protect the Odesa region. He highlighted the necessity for protecting civilians and the grain corridor, through which Ukraine exported agricultural products.
It's worth noting that the Odesa region was frequently targeted by Russian kamikaze drones during the summer, with attempts to strike Ukrainian port infrastructure in the region.
