Russian forces dig tunnels in Kharkiv direction to undermine Ukrainian defenses
Over the past day, Russian units in the Kharkiv region have intensified their activities and carried out assault actions, which were successfully repelled by Ukrainian defenders. Meanwhile, the enemy is using underground logistical routes to approach Ukrainian positions, states Volodymyr Degtyarov, a representative of the press service of the National operational brigade Khartia.
According to him, the enemy is using underground routes to approach Ukrainian positions, employing tactics observed since the summer of 2023 in the Avdiivka direction. Russian forces are digging tunnels for logistical support or to carry out demolitions of Ukrainian defensive structures.
"This enemy tactic is not new. We have been observing it since the summer of 2023 when they used tunneling and built tunnels in urban areas to create logistical routes, as well as to create longer tunnels to blow up some of our defensive structures," Degtyarov noted.
He also emphasized that the enemy is utilizing modern technologies, including electronic warfare (EW) systems, to counter Ukrainian aerial reconnaissance. However, Ukrainian forces continuously update their strategies, maintaining effective control of the airspace using drones.
"We can prepare in advance, preventing the approach of any active actions, even from small groups. Not to mention any attempts at breakthroughs using a large amount of equipment," Degtyarov concluded.
Situation in the Russian army
Russian commanders regularly employ the tactic of "meat assaults" on the Ukrainian front, ruthlessly throwing soldiers into battle without regard for losses.
In June, it was reported that Russian occupiers had deployed barrier detachments of Kadyrov's men along the border with the Kharkiv region.
Additionally, Russian commanders are threatening their troops with execution for refusing to participate in the offensive in the Kharkiv direction.
