Russia continues its shelling along the Ukrainian borders, with particular impact on the territories of Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions. Moreover, border guards have reported attempts by the enemy to deploy sabotage and reconnaissance groups (DRG) in the Sumy region, according to Andrii Demchenko, the spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

"Unlike the border with Belarus, the situation on the border with Russia is significantly different. It is tense because the enemy continues to shell from its territory into Ukraine," the spokesperson emphasized.

According to his statement, in the past month, Ukrainian border patrols recorded approximately 1,800 shelling incidents carried out by Russia on Ukrainian territory.

"These incidents occurred in the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions. In addition to this, along the Sumy direction, the enemy is attempting to deploy sabotage and reconnaissance groups (DRG)," Demchenko said.

The spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian soldiers understand the threat of sabotage and reconnaissance groups (DRG) and are maximizing their attention to fortifications. The border is fortified as close to the border as possible in terms of fortifications, but carrying out engineering work directly along the border is impossible due to shelling.

"Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are used to detect DRGs, which monitor the situation. When saboteurs are detected, they come under fire, and they retreat beyond the border," he emphasized.

DRG in the Sumy region

On October 12, a sabotage and reconnaissance group (DRG) of the occupiers attempted to break through the Ukrainian border in the Sumy region and target a critical infrastructure facility. Upon encountering resistance, the Russian saboteurs withdrew with losses. The DRG consisted of eight individuals.

Prior to this incident, on October 11, the Center for National Resistance had warned that special units of the main directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces had arrived in the Belgorod region to organize diversions on Ukrainian territory from the Sumy region.

Due to the constant shelling and attempts by hostile DRGs in the Sumy region, which borders the Bryansk, Kursk, and Belgorod regions of Russia, evacuations have been initiated from bordering settlements located within a 5-kilometer zone from the border with the aggressor country.
