Number of casualties rises in Kharkiv after Russian Shahed drone strikes on kindergarten

In Kharkiv, the number of people injured in a drone attack on a kindergarten and residential buildings has risen to nine. One person was killed, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS).
"The number of people injured as a result of a Russian drone strike on a kindergarten and nearby buildings in Kharkiv’s Kholodnohirskyi district has risen to nine. One person was killed," the statement said.
The enemy strike damaged a kindergarten, a shop, a café, an office building, and six cars. Three separate fires broke out in the area, the largest of which occurred in the kindergarten building, covering about 500 square meters.
At the time of the attack, 48 children were in a shelter. Rescuers, police officers, and volunteers promptly evacuated the children to a safe location.
About 60 rescuers, 13 units of State Emergency Service equipment, as well as psychologists, sappers, dog handlers, police officers, medics, and municipal services were involved in the response efforts.
The fires have already been extinguished, and emergency and rescue operations are currently ongoing.

Strike on a kindergarten in Kharkiv
At around 11:00 a.m. Kyiv time on October 22, Russian forces struck Kharkiv’s Kholodnohirskyi district with three Shahed drones.
The impact hit a private educational center building where about fifty children were present. During the air raid alert, they were taken to a basic shelter and later evacuated by rescuers. A fire broke out in the building.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that there is and can be no justification for a drone strike on a kindergarten.
