The port of Novorossiysk continues to be a hazardous location for Russian ships, as Ukrainian defenders can target them there, according to Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk.

Pletenchuk noted that while Russian Black Sea Fleet ships can technically launch Kalibr missiles directly from the harbor, remaining there permanently is risky.

He said that Russia cannot leave its ships in the harbor.

"We will destroy them right in there. And they understand that fully well," the navy spokesperson emphasized.

He explained that Russian ships usually leave the harbor for Tsemes Bay to fire missiles and then return, which takes only a few hours. However, even this short period exposes them to danger.

"They cannot feel free in open waters. For example, they need to enter Crimea for technical reasons, as a repair base remains there. At the same time, they could leave the Azov-Black Sea region via the Volga-Don Canal, but they don’t. Their maneuvering is therefore limited," Pletenchuk added.

Attack on a Russian ship

On August 28, it was reported that Ukrainian forces from the Defense Intelligence (HUR) struck a small Russian missile ship, the Buyan-M, which is capable of carrying Kalibr missiles. The vessel was in the Azov Sea.

During the operation, HUR used drones: one targeted the ship’s radar system, while the other hit the ship’s hull.
