Today, August 28, in the Azov Sea, the Ukrainian military struck a small missile ship of Russia, Buyan-M, which is a carrier of cruise missiles Kalibr. The hit was recorded on video, according to the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR).

As the intelligence officers told, the operation was carried out in the Azov Sea near temporarily occupied Crimea. As a result, a small missile ship of Russia of project 21631 Buyan-M – carrier of cruise missiles Kalibr – was struck.

Fighters of the special unit of HUR Ghosts damaged the ship’s radar system with a strike of an aerial drone, and special forces attacked the side of the Kalibr carrier.

As a result of the strikes, the Russian missile ship, which was in the zone of potential missile launch in the Temryuk Gulf, suffered damage and was forced to leave the area of combat duty.

What is known about Buyan-M

The small missile ship of Russia, project 21631 Buyan-M, is designed for action in coastal areas and internal seas.

The length of the ship is about 73 meters, the displacement is about 949 tons, and the draft is about 2.5 meters. The vessel develops a maximum speed of up to 25 knots and has an autonomy of sailing of about 15 days.

Armament includes cruise missiles Kalibr, anti-aircraft missile systems Redut, an artillery installation of caliber 76 mm, as well as several machine-gun points for self-defense.

The crew consists of approximately 52 people, and the ship is equipped with modern communication systems and radar complexes for conducting combat operations in coastal areas.

What is known about Kalibr missiles

Kalibr – these are sea-based cruise missiles, which Russia actively uses for strikes on the territory of Ukraine. They can be launched both from surface ships and from submarines located in the Black and Azov Seas.

The range of such missiles is more than 1,500 km, and their trajectory allows bypassing zones of air defense, which makes them a difficult target for interception.

Usually Kalibrs are used during large-scale combined attacks – simultaneously with strikes of ballistic missiles or kamikaze drones.

Work of HUR

Earlier, during an operation in the Black Sea, a strike sea drone broke through to the bay of Novorossiysk, where the remnants of the Russian Black Sea Fleet are based. Because of the detonation of the drone, a group of five elite Russian reconnaissance divers who tried to lift it and study it were killed.
