When you should not take ibuprofen

Ibuprofen is a type of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to relieve pain, fever, and inflammation.

It is often prescribed for:

  • high fever in adults and children
  • headache
  • toothache
  • migraine
  • muscle pain
  • joint pain
  • menstrual pain
  • signs of colds and flu
  • bruises and injuries

Most adults and young people can take ibuprofen. However, it can be dangerous for some people.

You should stop taking it immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • rales
  • rhinitis
  • skin reactions

In addition, if you are over 65 years of age, ibuprofen may increase the likelihood of developing stomach ulcers. Your doctor should also prescribe medications to protect your stomach if you take ibuprofen for a long period of time.

Taking ibuprofen with other medicines

Ibuprofen also does not work well with some medicines. Do not combine the drug with:
