Chia seeds have become quite popular worldwide as they are rich in fiber, protein, and a range of important minerals and vitamins. They are also used to treat constipation, according to the TikTok page of British doctor Karan Raj.

Do chia seeds really help prevent constipation

Chia seeds are quite small, and round in shape, and can be black, brown, white, or speckled.

All the beneficial components contained in these tiny seeds play a significant role in supporting essential bodily functions. Chia seeds are rightly considered a superfood due to their high content of antioxidants, minerals, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids.

The nutrients in chia seeds can positively impact heart health, strengthen the skeletal system, and normalize blood sugar levels. The product is versatile and can be used in many recipes.

Chia seeds are a rich source of dietary fiber, which is indigestible and necessary for healthy bowel movements. When you consume chia seed powder, it forms a gel-like substance in your intestines that helps soften and bulk up the stool, making it easier to pass.

Additionally, chia seed powder also contains magnesium, which is a natural stool softener and can help relax the muscles, promoting bowel movements.

What can replace chia seeds

Dr. Karan Raj responded to a video from a woman who referred to herself as "the person with the worst constipation." She noted that chia seeds help her avoid this issue.

The expert suggested an alternative to chia seeds that might be even more beneficial for overall health.

The doctor mentioned that chia seeds are a great source of fiber and noted that they can help with constipation and support regularity.

However, too much fiber, especially insoluble fiber, can cause bloating and cramps.

It turns out that psyllium husk is beneficial for overall gut health.

According to the expert, psyllium husk contains a higher amount of soluble fiber, making it better than chia seeds. He noted that psyllium husk has about 80% soluble fiber compared to 10% in chia seeds.

This means that it forms a better gel-like substance in the intestines and attracts more water, thereby softening the stool more and ensuring regularity.
