US President Donald Trump has revealed details of a conversation he had with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, according to Trump's Truth Social page.

According to him, the conversation lasted about an hour and a half and ended "very positively for both countries." They discussed, in particular, a trade deal and critical minerals.

In addition, Trump announced a meeting between US and Chinese teams — the time and location will be determined later. The US delegation will include Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and US Trade Representative, Ambassador Jamieson Greer.

"During the conversation, President Xi graciously invited the First Lady and me to visit China, and I reciprocated. The conversation was focused almost entirely on TRADE. Nothing was discussed concerning Russia/Ukraine, or Iran," the US President added.

This is the first conversation between the leaders of the United States and China since Trump’s inauguration.

Several hours ago, media outlets reported on the call between Trump and Xi Jinping. Western media had previously written that Trump planned to hold a phone call with Xi in early May, but no information about their conversation was provided at the time.

Trump’s trade war

On April 2, the US imposed new tariffs on imports from over 180 countries, setting rates ranging from 10% to 49% depending on the country and type of product. However, just a week later, the White House administration decided to suspend these tariffs for 90 days and introduced a single universal rate of 10% for all countries. China was excluded from this relief — its tariffs were raised to 140%. In response, Beijing implemented its own countermeasures, increasing tariffs on imports from the US to 125%.

By May 12, the US and China agreed on a 90-day pause in the trade war.

Last week, Trump accused China of violating the trade agreement with the United States, according to which Beijing had recently sharply reduced the tariffs it had imposed.

"The bad news is that China, perhaps not surprisingly to some, has totally violated its agreement with us," Trump said.
