Not 30 and not 40: When first wrinkles appear on face

Facial skin aging begins earlier than many people think. As early as the age of 25, the body starts producing less collagen, which leads to the first changes in skin structure. Here's how to prevent wrinkles and keep your skin youthful for longer.
When the skin undergoes age-related changes
According to Ukrainian dermatologist and cosmetologist Solomiya Vynnyk, skin starts experiencing age-related changes as early as age 25.
Here is what happens on the level of different layers:
- Cell renewal slows down
- Volume of fat tissue decreases
- Skin's ability to regenerate declines
- Fat distribution becomes uneven
- Collagen and elastin production decrease by 1% every year
- Skin loses firmness and elasticity, becoming less hydrated
What accelerates skin aging
Skin aging is a natural process, but some factors can significantly speed it up. These are the main ones:
- Ultraviolet (UV) radiation: the skin’s biggest enemy. The sun and tanning beds destroy collagen and elastin, leading to wrinkles, pigmentation, and loss of firmness
- Smoking: reduces blood flow to the skin, lowers oxygen levels, and destroys collagen
- Alcohol dehydrates the skin, contributes to puffiness, and makes blood vessels more visible
- Poor nutrition: a lack of antioxidants (vitamins A, C, E), fatty acids, and protein deprives the skin of its ability to recover
- Chronic stress raises cortisol levels, which break down the protein structures in the skin
- Lack of sleep: the skin doesn't have time to regenerate, leading to dark circles and loss of radiance
- Polluted air: Free radicals from smog and toxins cause oxidative stress
- Insufficient skincare: a lack of hydration, cleansing, and sun protection leads to premature skin wear
- Hormonal changes: a drop in estrogen, especially during menopause, affects skin elasticity and thickness
How to rejuvenate the skin
To eliminate early signs of aging, treatment with retinoids, vitamin C, and alpha hydroxy acids may be sufficient.
Deeper facial wrinkles can be treated with botulinum toxin or fillers, including hyaluronic acid injections.
Some people may opt for surgical intervention, such as a facelift.
Injectable and hardware procedures:
- biorevitalization, mesotherapy – deep hydration, regeneration
- botulinum therapy – wrinkle prevention
- IPL therapy – stimulation of collagen and elastin production
- microneedle RF – increased elasticity
