Norway to provide spare parts for Sea King helicopters to Ukraine
Norway will donate spare parts for Sea King helicopters to Ukraine to help support the operation and maintenance of the helicopters donated by Germany, according to Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram.
"As co-chair of the Maritime Capability Coalition, Norway considers it important to ensure that Ukraine is able to build its Coast Guard and increase its maritime capabilities as rapidly as possible. Norway will donate spare parts for Sea King helicopters in order to help support the operation and maintenance of the helicopters that have been donated to Ukraine by Germany," he says.
Sea King helicopters are an older type of helicopter and it can be difficult to find spare parts. Sea King helicopters were in service in Norway from 1973 to 2023 and have now been replaced by SAR Queen helicopters. Norwegian helicopters have reached their maximum number of flight hours and cannot be donated.
Germany has decided to donate six Sea Kings to Ukraine, and the UK plans to donate three. Norway will provide spare parts for the six aircraft donated by Germany.
Norway's assistance to Ukraine
Norway has provided significant assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion in 2022. The support includes financial, military, and humanitarian aid.
Earlier, Norway donated NOK 15 billion (about $1.5 billion) worth of military aid to Ukraine, including air defense systems, artillery shells, and other weapons. In addition, Oslo has allocated NOK 5 billion (about $500 million) for humanitarian aid and support for Ukrainian refugees.
In April, it was reported that Norway was planning a significant increase in aid to Ukraine.
