Norway has agreed to participate in the "Danish model" of supporting Ukraine, which involves direct financing of Ukrainian military production, Rustem Umerov, Minister of Defense of Ukraine, reported.

According to Umerov, during his meetings with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram in Oslo, he secured Norway's commitment to join the "Danish model" of support, which will enable faster manufacturing and delivery of essential weaponry for Ukraine's defense forces.

"In addition, we discussed a new format of cooperation – the 'Norwegian model.' It involves a new approach to investing in Ukrainian defense technology companies. Details will follow soon," Umerov noted.

Norway's support for Ukraine

Norway has been a steadfast ally of Ukraine throughout Russia's full-scale war, providing significant humanitarian, military, and financial assistance. From the first days of the war, Oslo condemned Russia's aggression and joined international sanctions against Moscow. It has since emerged as one of the leading aid contributors to Ukraine.

On the military level, Norway supplies Ukraine with weapons, ammunition, air defense systems, and other equipment. Crucially, Norwegian programs also include training Ukrainian soldiers as part of broader international initiatives. Beyond military aid, Norway provides substantial financial support to help rebuild infrastructure, stabilize Ukraine's economy, and address the humanitarian crises caused by the war.

In late October, Hennadiy Kovalenko, director of the International Defense Cooperation Department of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, announced that Norway is preparing a new aid package for Ukraine worth €500 million. This package will include F-16 fighter jets and NASAMS air defense systems.
